When depression strikes, even the simplest tasks can feel overwhelming. There are days when getting out of bed feels impossible. Things like brushing my teeth, taking a shower, cooking dinner, or caring for my dogs can become major challenges. Alongside this, I also face general anxiety, social anxiety, and PTSD—though that’s a conversation for another time.
Through it all, I remind myself to take things one step at a time—sometimes one hour at a time. I’ve learned that depressive episodes, while tough, do pass. Holding onto that truth helps me push through the darkest moments. I focus on staying grounded, controlling my thoughts, and seeking out the small joys and beauty around me. It’s not always easy, and some days still feel like a struggle, but I believe that better days will come.
Depression can make you feel isolated, but it’s important to remember that you’re not alone. Even on the hardest days, you don’t walk this journey by yourself. It’s helpful to focus on the good days, no matter how small they seem. As the Bible says, “Take captive every thought.” This reminder helps me protect my mind and focus on the positive.
If you’re struggling, know that you’re not alone. Take it one day at a time, hold on to hope, and keep moving forward. You’ve got this.
